Earlier this month, on 6th October, 2022, President of The Bar Association of Guyana, Ms. Pauline Chase and Chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales, Mr. Mark Fenhalls, KC executed an MOU which will foster closer ties between the associations particularly in the areas of training and development.
Key points of the MOU which was executed at The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn (“Gray’s Inn”), London, England, are –
- promote and assist in the development of Guyana as a centre for international alternative dispute resolution particularly in the context of the oil and gas industry;
- examine possible areas of reciprocal collaboration between practitioners;
- commitment to training and development opportunities;
- knowledge sharing on professional ethics.
The MOU which was the result of months of prior discussion between the associations was executed while Ms. Chase was in London representing The Bar Association of Guyana at the Opening of the Legal Year in England. Representatives of various Bar Associations and such bodies from more than thirty jurisdictions were also in attendance.
